Hip-hop royalty is coming to Philly! Jay-Z (stylized as JAŸ-Z in honor of Reasonable Doubt‘s 30th anniversary) is making a massive stage return as the headliner for Roots Picnic 2026, teaming up with legendary band The Roots for a historic joint performance. This marks Jay-Z’s first announced full live set in nearly a year and a rare full collab with The Roots in over a decade—expect an epic night of classics, deep cuts, and pure hip-hop energy at Philadelphia’s biggest annual music and culture festival.

The two-day event takes place May 30–31, 2026, for the first time at the scenic Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park (a historic spot with iconic skyline views). Jay-Z and The Roots will close out Saturday, May 30, delivering what promises to be the weekend’s highlight—think timeless hits like “Empire State of Mind,” “99 Problems,” “Big Pimpin’,” and Roots staples like “The Seed” and “You Got Me,” plus potential surprises and tributes to hip-hop history.

Roots Picnic has long been Philly’s premier celebration of hip-hop, R&B, soul, and culture, featuring diverse lineups, live podcasts, art installations, food vendors, and community vibes. This year’s venue shift to Belmont Plateau addresses past fan feedback with upgrades for better flow, views, and experience. Full lineup details beyond the headliner are rolling out—stay tuned via rootspicnic.com—but Jay-Z’s appearance alone makes this a must-attend for fans.
